An unwanted open gate can be a costly problem, and with gates spread across a large property, you can’t be everywhere at once. Whether it's a gate left open after a delivery, an unauthorised visitor, or livestock finding their way through, the consequences can be serious. The Farmo Farm Gate Sensor is a wireless monitoring solution designed specifically for Australian farm conditions. Using a ferromagnetic sensor that detects the metal drop latch in the closed position, it sends the gate status directly to the Farmo App.

Installation is as simple as replacing your existing drop latch with the Farmo Gate Sensor and reattaching the gate chain as normal. The sensor detects when the metal latch is no longer in the closed position and immediately transmits a customisable alert over the built-in cellular network to the Farmo App. Once activated, you'll receive real-time SMS or email notifications whenever a gate opens or closes, and a full timestamped history of all gate activity is recorded in the app. No wiring or special tools, just a five-minute retrofit that works with most common Australian gate designs.

FAQs

The Farmo Gate Sensor is designed to retrofit most common Australian farm gate designs. It replaces your existing drop latch and uses the same gate chain.

Yes, as long as there’s mobile network coverage (Telstra by default) the device will work. Data is sent over the specialised long distance CatM1/Nb-IoT part of the 4G and 5G networks, so you will find coverage goes further than voice calls on handsets.

The sensor uses a ferromagnetic detection method, meaning it specifically detects the presence or absence of the metal drop latch in the closed position. This makes it far more reliable than motion-based alternatives, which can trigger false alerts from wind, animals, or vibrations.

The lithium battery will last for over a year before needing replacement. Battery status is visible in the Farmo App, and when required a new battery can be ordered from Farmo and installed by the customer.
