Are you irrigating on a schedule and hoping for the best, without actually knowing what's happening in your soil? The Farmo Multi-Depth Soil Moisture and Temperature Sensor gives you a complete picture of soil conditions across six depths (from 10cm to 60cm) straight to your phone. Stop wasting water on fields that don't need it and stop under-irrigating crops that do. With real data from the root zone, you can make smarter irrigation decisions that increase yield, protect crop quality, and reduce water and electricity costs.
Irrigation decisions made without soil data are costly: over-watering wastes water and electricity, while under-watering stresses crops at the most critical growth stages. The Farmo Multi-Depth Soil Moisture and Temperature Sensor uses a factory-calibrated 60cm AquaCheck capacitance probe to measure soil moisture and temperature at six depths simultaneously: 10cm, 20cm, 30cm, 40cm, 50cm, and 60cm. All data is transmitted directly to the Farmo App via the built-in cellular network, giving you a complete picture of your soil profile without setting foot in the paddock. The SIM card, battery, telemetry unit, probe, and 6m cable are all included.
Data & Alerts Include:
Using an auger, create a hole approximately 5cm in diameter to the required depth and insert the 60cm AquaCheck probe. Backfill with a soil slurry to ensure good contact around the sensors, and mount the telemetry enclosure above ground. Once activated via the Farmo App, the device transmits soil moisture and temperature readings from all six depths daily at 9am by default, with more frequent reporting configurable if needed.
The probe measures soil moisture as a Scaled Frequency Unit (SFU), calibrated from 0 in air to 100 in water. Please note the value returned IS NOT a % of soil moisture, It is also not linear with moisture. Soil temperature is recorded across a range of 0–51°C.
Set custom threshold alerts in the Farmo App to be notified by SMS or email when moisture levels hit your defined refill point or reach field capacity, and link the data to a Farmo IoT Switch, or a Farmo Smart Plug to automate irrigation pump control.
Farmo devices are covered by a 12 month back-to-base warranty. After the standard warranty period expires we apply a pro-rata warranty up to 24 months.
Protect the cable from physical damage
Set a low SFU threshold as your refill trigger and a high SFU value as your field capacity cut-off. The sensor tells you precisely when your crop needs water and when the soil is full, so you never over or under-irrigate again.
Six sensors at 10cm intervals from 10cm to 60cm give you a complete picture of how water moves through your soil profile, so you can understand uptake, drainage, and where moisture is actually sitting.
Linking your soil moisture data to the Farmo Remote Pump Control or Remote Relay Switch. A high SFU value, representing field capacity, is used to turn irrigation off, while a low SFU value, representing the refill point & triggers irrigation to begin. This setup helps maintain soil moisture between the two levels.
Soil temperature readings at each of the six depths help you time planting, track conditions during germination, and understand how temperature varies through the profile across different seasons.
See moisture and temperature readings from all six depths in a single, unified feed. Updated daily at 9am by default, or more frequently if configured. Understand your soil profile at a glance and spot changes before they affect your crop.
Configure custom SFU thresholds in the Farmo App and receive instant SMS or email notifications when moisture drops to your refill point or reaches field capacity.
Track trends in soil moisture and temperature over time to refine your irrigation strategy, understand seasonal patterns, and fine-tune your trigger thresholds as you accumulate data from your specific soil type and conditions.
Yes, as long as there’s mobile network coverage (Telstra by default) the device will work. Data is sent over the specialised long distance CatM1/Nb-IoT part of the 4G and 5G networks, so you will find coverage goes further than voice calls on handsets.
SFU stands for Scaled Frequency Unit; the AquaCheck probe is factory-calibrated to read 0 in air and 100 in water. The reading is not a direct percentage of volumetric soil moisture. Instead, you use historical data from your own site. A high SFU value, representing field capacity, is used to turn irrigation off, while a low SFU value, representing the refill point, triggers irrigation to begin. This setup helps maintain soil moisture between the two levels. The ideal trigger points can be estimated using historical data and fine-tuned over time as more data is collected.
Yes. Soil moisture data from the probe can be linked to a Farmo IoT Switch or Remote Relay Switch to automate pump control.
Installation is simple. Use an auger of approximately 5cm diameter to create the hole for the probe, and a small amount of soil slurry to backfill and ensure good contact around each sensor. The telemetry enclosure mounts above ground on a post.
