Are you still guessing how many people visit your park, trail, or facility, or manually counting foot traffic? The Farmo People Counter Bi-directional gives you accurate, automated visitor counts in both directions, delivered in real time to your phone or web dashboard. With no Wi-Fi, no external power, and no complex infrastructure required, it's the simplest way to understand exactly how your space is being used.
Perfect for: Parks, trails, buildings, offices and public venues where reliable people counting supports better crowd management and resource allocation.
Managing public spaces, parks, trails, sports facilities, and buildings without reliable visitor data is a constant challenge. How do you allocate maintenance resources, justify grant funding, or plan for peak periods. The Farmo People Counter Bi-directional is a self-contained wireless sensor that counts people moving in and out of a space using privacy-safe infrared PIR technology. It requires no cameras, no Wi-Fi, no gateways, and no external power supply. Counts are broken down by direction and all data is visualised in real time via the Farmo App. The data can also be integrated with your asset management tools and systems using an API.

Incremental Increase throughout the day
Running total for the day
Mount the People Counter to a wall or pole at your chosen entry point - a stainless steel bracket is available for purchase if required. Position the sensor so that the PIR counting zone covers the pathway or entrance. Once activated via the Farmo App, the PIR sensor detects the Infrared heat pattern of an object and will detect any living person or animal equally (and anonymously). If multiple people pass in one group, it will be detected as one event.
Data is transmitted hourly by default when movement is detected, with a daily heartbeat message sent on quiet days to confirm the device is active. The reporting frequency is configurable. Increasing it to every 15 minutes is possible, though this will increase battery consumption.
Farmo devices are covered by a 12 month back-to-base warranty. After the standard warranty period expires we apply a pro-rata warranty up to 24 months.
Keep sensor window clean and ensure the counting zone is free of obstruction.
Get hourly and daily directional movement counts so you always know when your park, trail, or facility is at its busiest.
The built-in NB-IoT/Cat-M1 SIM connects over the cellular network wherever there's mobile coverage.
The PIR infrared sensor detects movement and records events anonymously. No cameras, no images, no identifying data of any kind. Full privacy compliance, right out of the box.
Connect visitor movement data to your internal asset management tools or reporting platforms via Farmo's API. Already deployed across councils and organisations in Australia and the United States.
See live incoming and outgoing detection counts per hour and per day, from any device. Understand your busiest periods at a glance and make resourcing decisions based on actual usage data.
Set custom thresholds and receive instant SMS or email notifications when detection counts reach a defined level. Useful for capacity management, after-hours access monitoring, or triggered reporting.
Chart visitor movement over time to identify peak periods, seasonal patterns, and long-term usage trends. Use the data to support grant applications, maintenance scheduling, staffing decisions, and reporting to stakeholders.
By default, the device transmits data every hour when movement is detected. On days with no activity, it sends a daily heartbeat message to confirm it is functioning. The reporting interval is configurable. You can increase the frequency to every 15 minutes for more regular updates, though this will use more battery.
No. The People Counter uses a PIR infrared sensor that detects movement and records anonymous events. It does not capture images, video, or any identifying information. It is privacy-safe and suitable for deployment in public spaces without any privacy compliance issues
Yes, as long as there’s mobile network coverage (Telstra by default) the device will work. Data is sent over the specialised long distance CatM1/Nb-IoT part of the 4G and 5G networks, so you will find coverage goes further than voice calls on handsets.
The lithium battery will last for over a year before needing replacement. Battery status is visible in the Farmo App, and when required a new battery can be ordered from Farmo and installed by the customer.
