Managing pumps across a large or remote property is one of the most time-consuming and fuel-expensive tasks in farming. Whether it's filling a distant tank, running an irrigation cycle, or responding to a low-level alert at 2am, the trips add up fast. The Farmo Smart Plug 240 is a cellular controller that connects between your powered device and any standard 15A 240V single-phase outlet.

Controlled through the Farmo App, it gives you manual on/off control, scheduled automation, and the ability to trigger the pump automatically based on custom thresholds from other Farmo devices e.g. trigger the pump automatically based on tank levels using data from the Farmo tank sensor. Because both the controller and your sensors are cloud-connected, they don't need to be near each other; a pump and tank sensor hundreds of kilometres apart can work together seamlessly.

A risk assessment must be completed and actioned before operating machinery remotely.

After a completed risk assessment with a certified electrician, the installation is simple. Simply plug the Smart Plug 240 between your pump or powered equipment and the 15A 240V power outlet, then activate the device via the Farmo App. The built-in NB-IoT/Cat-M1 SIM connects over the cellular network and the device receives commands from the Farmo App in real time. rom the app, you can switch the pump on or off manually, set a schedule, or configure automatic trigger-based control linked to a different Farmo device. The device includes an onboard Auto/Off/On switch so the pump can also be operated manually on-site if needed.

Automate Your Irrigation

Link the Smart Plug 240 to the Farmo Soil Moisture sensor and set a trigger in the App so that when the soil moisture drops below a specific level, the Smart Plug automatically turns on the water. Once the sensor reaches your the soil hydration threshold, it turns the plug off.

Yes, as long as there’s mobile network coverage (Telstra by default) the device will work. Data is sent over the specialised long distance CatM1/Nb-IoT part of the 4G and 5G networks, so you will find coverage goes further than voice calls on handsets.

Controlled via the Farmo App, the Farmo Smart Plug 240 can be set to operate in the following modes:

  • Manual control: Switch on and off directly from the Farmo App
  • Scheduled control: Switch on and off automatically based on schedules set in the Farmo App
  • Sensor-based control: Switch on and off based on water tank levels or soil moisture
  • Combined triggers: Use a mix of conditions - for example, only switch on when tank levels drop and it’s within a scheduled time window

All modes are fully configurable in the Farmo App, where you can also monitor real-time status and review historical data.

Yes. Because both the Smart Plug 240 and your Farmo sensors are cloud-connected rather than locally paired, they can operate independently of physical distance. Farmers routinely use this setup to automate water movement between tanks or paddocks that are hundreds of kilometres apart.

No. The Farmo Smart Plug 240 is designed for plug-in installation, simply connect it between your pump and a standard 15A 240V single-phase power outlet. Please note: for remote machine operation, a risk assessment must be completed and actioned.
